One of my book publishers has a mantra: If the tongue is out, it isn't publishable.  And since I photograph a lot for this particular publisher, and have done so for years, it's now my mantra, too. (Of course, we're talking about dogs here--not people--but actually the same concept applies... ) Anyway, I will go to great lengths not only to have a dog's ears pricked and the dog engaged but also no matter how hot it is, I want to get that capture with the dog's mouth shut -- all I need is 1/200 of a second for it to happen!

Well .... that works when you can pick your time of day, weather and have lots of cooling aids for the dogs you are photographing.  But we did our best on Saturday's fun and fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association at The Cooke Veterinary Medical Center in Chesapeake, VA, and raised nearly $200 in a little less than two hours.

Here are some of the pups we photographed Saturday!

This is Rock, a GSD who is SAR trained and works with Brandy Eggeman of Citizen K9 Dog Training and Agility. RockSAR dog trained in human remains

And this pair of adorable Chihuahuas...

And then there was this adorable female Shih Tzu who someone just HAS to adopt as she is the sweetest thing EVER (and is currently up for adoption at the Chesapeake Humane Society!)  Isn't she gorgeous!!

And then we had a few babies--like this sweet Pibble who definitely was a "tongue out Saturday" dog!

And this gorgeous 7-month-old Shiba Inu...

We did have several dogs who did actually put their tongues in for a split second, and one of them was this sweet little guy, "Spud," whose "mom" won the drawing for the a pet portrait session and $100 print credit!

And, of course, great fun was had by all in attendance!

Until later!
